Ajou opens the 'Research Center for Futuristic Combat Systems Network and Technology'

[16.11.10]

The Research Center for Futuristic Combat Systems Network and Technology (Director Jae Sung Lim) was launched on November 10th with the opening ceremony.

The ceremony was held at 3:30 p.m. in Dasan Hall Auditorium and in front of the College Academic Building, with Minister Myoung Jin Chang of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and President In Ho Kim of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), and President Dong Yeon Kim, Professor Tae Young Kim (former defense minister), and Director Jae Sung Lim from Ajou University participating.

It began with a progress report on the Center, followed by the presentation of the letter of commissioning, welcome remarks by President Kim, congratulatory addresses by DAPA Minister Chang and ADD President Kim, an introduction of the Center, and the signboard hanging, etc.

DAPA assists selected universities and government-invested research institutes to establish the Centers to secure essential defense-related technologies and induce excellent research talents to participate in defense-related research and development. Ajou's research center will play a central role in bringing together research talents from the domestic academic world, developing original technologies necessary for defense-related applied research, and building researcher capabilities. Thirteen universities, including Ajou, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology, and Soongsil University, are participating in the project.

President Kim said in his welcome remarks, "Ajou has strong expertise in the field of defense. I expect that the Research Center will create synergy with the capabilities of our relevant departments and research institutes," adding, "I promise that the University will provide full support for the project."

In his congratulatory address, Minister Chang said, "DAPA plans to invest 11.1 billion won in this Research Center over six years through 2020 to secure original tactical network technologies customized to South Korea. They include transmission systems combining manned and unmanned combat structures, telecommunication signal processing to deal with communication disruption from the enemy, and new-media-based transmission technologies to prepare for the future theater of war."

It was followed by a congratulatory address by ADD President Kim, in which he said, "I would like to congratulate Ajou on the opening of the Research Center and we will not spare any assistance for smooth research activities."
