Ajou offers "AFTER YOU" scholarships to ten Uzbek students

[16.09.12]

On September 8th, a ceremony was held at the President’s Office in Yulgok Hall to present certificates of scholarships under the AFTER YOU Program to Uzbek students who will study at Ajou University this fall semester.

The ten students come from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), Ajou's sister university. They are the first group of foreign students Ajou has invited to South Korea to promote the Program objective – fostering social mobility – in addition to sending Ajou's students to overseas universities. The scholarship funds will cover the full tuition and boarding expenses for the incoming UWED students.

They will attend Ajou University as exchange students, including scholarship awardee Yokubov Abdulaziz, who will study in the Department of Business Administration.

The ceremony began with a presentation of certificates, followed by words of encouragement by President Dong Yeon Kim, and comments from UWED students. Established in 1992, UWED specializes in international relations and law, and it signed an MOU with Ajou in 2005.

At the ceremony, Abdulaziz said, "I am very happy to study at Ajou and thankful that it provides such excellent facilities and education programs," adding, "I will work hard to become a talented citizen so that I can contribute to the development of my country."

The AFTER YOU Program, one of several projects that Ajou launched last year, is an intensive overseas training program for students who find it hard to build overseas experience due to various difficulties. Two hundred twenty students have built various experiences at Program partner universities in China and the U.S. over three sessions since summer vacation last year. Ten percent of Program participants were selected from students attending other local universities. The Program is funded by donations from people who agree with the need for such an initiative.
