The first committee meeting is held to discuss Ajou University Library remodeling

[16.08.19]

The first meeting of the Central Library Remodeling Committee was held on the morning of August 18th in the Theater on the ground floor of the Ajou University Central Library.

The meeting was attended by President Dong Yeon Kim, Library Remodeling Committee Chairman and Executive Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation Kyung Hee Choi, deans of colleges, and relevant vice presidents. Also in attendance were President Gyeong Jin Lee from the General Student Council, Yong Won Park from the General Alumni Association, Chairman Won Gyu Cho from the Alumni Association of the Department of Architecture, Chairman Jeong Man Cho from the Alumni Association of the Graduate School of Public Affairs, and relevant staff members from the University.

The Committee members are deans of colleges, Vice President for Planning, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for Administration, the president and vice president of the Student Council who represent students, and six officials from the General Alumni Association.

The meeting kicked off with an introduction of the Library remodeling project by Vice President for Planning Jung Seob Lee, followed by a presentation of the remodeling plan by Central Library Executive Director Dong Woo Shin (professor in the Department of Architecture) and discussion among the participants.

Last year, the University established its development plan – Ajou's Great Turning – and has since been pursuing improvements to the campus environment. In a survey of 1,000 students, the Central Library topped the ranking of facilities that should be renovated first. In June and July, the University conducted a study on remodeling the Library and presented the findings to the Committee on the day.

There have been steady demands for renovating the Library because its buildings and facilities have deteriorated since its construction in 1983. The Committee plans to redesign the Library, reflecting student demands and requirements prior to beginning the remodeling during the winter vacation.

President Kim said, "I expect that the remodeled Library will become a popular place among Ajou people."

He went on to say, "It should also be an opportunity to establish the functions and roles of the Library in line with ongoing changes," adding, "I ask that the Committee produces the best possible results, though there will be many things to consider including the budget."
