Ajou's Seong Min Kwon wins the Excellent Paper Award from the Korea Society of Computers and Information

[16.08.16]

Seong Min Kwon (senior of the Department of Software, pictured above) from Ajou University won the Excellent Paper Award during the Korea Society of Computers and Information (KSCI) Summer Conference 2016.

Kwon teamed up with Soo Gyeong Lee (Dependable Software Program in the Graduate School) and Professor Sang Yoon Oh (Department of Software) in conducting the award-winning research. The paper is entitled "Iterative Processing Analysis of the Hadoop System Including SSD-type Storage Device."

Kwon conducted the research during the Intensive IT Class (available in the fall semester for juniors) and the Self-motivated Research (available in the spring semester for seniors). Both courses encourage in-depth studies through team projects and often lead to writing papers or conducting joint projects with the related industries.

The Self-motivated Research in particular provides students wishing to advance to graduate courses with an opportunity to explore relevant research areas. In connection with the second Self-motivated Research in the fall semester of the fourth year, students conduct practical and well-organized research with their guiding professors, graduate students, and mentors from the industry over a full academic year.

The KSCI Summer Conference was held from July 14th to the 16th at Gangneung-Wonju National University under the theme 'Technologies for Smart Healthcare.'
