'2016 Global Start-up & Trade School ' concludes successfully

[16.08.05]

'2016 Global Start-up & Trade School co-hosted by Ajou University and the World-Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA)' wrapped up its six-night-seven-day program with a graduation ceremony, which was held on July 28th at Kintex located in Goyang City.

The program was attended by 110 overseas Koreans from 49 cities in 25 countries and 53 domestic participants, including members of Ajou's Business Startup Club, students from Cha University, and business leaders recommended by Sungkyunkwan University, in addition to about fifty staff members. The activities for the first three days were held at Ajou University and those over the next four days were held at Kintex.

During the event, fifteen teams participated in a business operation and marketing competition with various products made by Ajou's eleven partner companies. The teams who chose business operation set up imaginary businesses and identified items to sell in the market, while those who focused on marketing built strategies for penetrating overseas markets with existing products.

The five teams that made it to the final round gave presentations before the graduation ceremony. The First Award went to the marketing team of Marudeoham, a company established by Ajou students. The team presented a marketing strategy for selling burn-prevention electric heaters, products developed by Marudeoham, in Canada. The marketing team has qualified to participate in the 'Invest in Rising Stars' showcase during the World-OKTA Convention to be held in October in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province. The team that won the First Award last year attracted 2.5 million dollars during the event.

As for the other teams, 'Veggie Dah' presented a plan for starting a virtual trading company to export well-being foods like Korean temple food to about 600,000 ethnic Koreans residing in New Jersey and New York. Team Tree Bird introduced a strategy for selling ready-to-eat Bibimbap made with traditional Korean vegetables in Vietnam.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Chairman Ki Chool Park and other officials from World-OKTA, Executive Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation Kyung Hee Choi from Ajou University, and Director Yang Soon Yoon from the Goyang Municipal Government, etc. Chairman Park said, "I hope that this event will be an opportunity for you to start your own businesses," adding, "I also ask that you become leaders representing South Korea in the global community."

Vice President Choi said, "I expect that the achievements and network we have built during this program will be the groundwork for the Ajou-OKTA Global Start-up Academy," adding, "I think that we took a step forward in forming diverse partnerships for promoting business start-ups."
