[16.08.04]

'Experience Ajou’s Departments & Career Fair,' marking its third year this year,  ended successfully on August 3rd, with about one thousand people, including middle and high school students and their parents, participating despite the hot weather.

The Fair was organized to provide the opportunity for middle and high school students to better understand Ajou University departments and receive consulting on their future career. The University received prior applications from July 19th and all of the available spots were quickly filled, indicating the popularity of the event.

The Fair kicked off with a lecture on future careers by Director Kyung Il Kim of the Admission Assessment Center, followed by an introduction of Ajou's student selection process and departments, an experience of the departments, and one-on-one consulting sessions. During the department introductions, professors from the University's twenty departments explained their respective majors and answered questions from students.

Hyo Jin Lee (second year, Seongji High School) said, "I found the introduction of the Department of Psychology useful because the professor explained not only the undergraduate course, but the graduate program as well," adding, "He was happy to answer many questions. I hope to come back next time if I get the chance."

The departments introduced by professors were the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Biological Science, the Department of Defense and Digital Convergence, the Department of Software, the Department of Nursing Sciences, the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Korean Language and Literature, the Department of History, the Department of Psychology, the Department of Economics, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Department of Architecture, the Department of Industrial Engineering, the Department of Pharmacy, the Department of Digital Media, the Department of Financial Engineering, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Public Administration, and the Department of Culture and Contents, and those with specialties, including the Department of Defense and Digital Convergence, the Department of Pharmacy, and the Department of Financial Engineering, drew lots of interest from student participants.

The department experiences involved making soccer robots (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), assembling bone kits (Department of Medical Sciences), and conducting criminal psychology tests (Department of Psychology), etc. Ajou's students from the respective departments helped middle and high school students during the activities.

The one-on-one consulting sessions with admissions officers were also popular among the 60 students who applied in advance. Eun Byeol Choi (third year, Woosung High School) said, "A senior recommended that I come to this fair, and I learned about the University departments and had a one-to-one consulting session. It was great," adding, "I am working on my letter of self-introduction for Ajou. I look forward to entering this University."

Hyeon Suk Rho, a parent of a high school freshman, said, "The lectures about student careers by professors were very informative," adding, "My child expressed interest in certain departments and the fair was a chance to understand what he/she likes and what he/she can do well."
