Ajou University’s ‘Leaders in INdustry-college Cooperation (LINC)’ Project Group (Director Kyung Hee Choi) was graded ‘Excellent’ in the 2015 annual evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) for a second straight year. Based on the evaluation results, the Group will receive 4.8 billion won in project funding this year.

On May 17th, MOE and NRF said that the University received an ‘Excellent’ grade in the Technical Innovation Segment – a nationwide competition – in the fourth annual evaluation for 2015.

MOE and NRF carry out annual evaluations of achievements and plans of individual universities participating in the LINC Project and grant differential financial support based on the results. The University, which joined the LINC Project in 2014, was in its second year, and it ranked 5th in the Technical Innovation Segment among fifteen universities – most of them in their fourth year in the Project. Ajou is set to receive a total of 4.8 billion won for this year, including the basic project fund and performance-based incentives.

LINC, which began in 2012, is a national project aimed at improving the competitiveness of domestic universities as well as local communities and corporations, by upgrading the quality of university education in line with the needs of industry. In 2014, Ajou joined the Technical Innovation Segment with other Seoul-based universities - Sogang and Hanyang – for a nationwide competition.

The LINC Project has two categories - Technical Innovation for nationwide competition (15 universities) and Local Cooperation for provincial competition (42 universities) – and a total of 57 four-year universities are participating in the Project. MOE and NRF assign an 'Outstanding,' 'Excellent,' or 'Average' grade to the universities participating in the Project based on the annual evaluation.

Regarding Ajou, MOE and NRF said "The University has well-prepared plans for industry and academia cooperation and has properly executed them in alignment with its own development plan. It also seeks sustainable development regarding cooperation with industries," adding, "The University stands out in patent education programs for sound capstone design courses and in operating other curricula involving industries, which leads to patent-related achievements, etc."

MOE and NRF also favorably evaluated Ajou's system as being friendly to industry-academia cooperation and the academic organization reshuffled in line with industrial needs; the system to guide and support students who take on-site training subjects; the assistance to produce excellent graduates with expertise in technical innovation and the revamped curriculum reflecting industrial demands; and contribution to the local economy by promoting Ajou's Creative Research Town, etc.

Executive Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation Kyung Hee Choi (Professor of the Department of Software and Computer Engineering) said, "Ajou's LINC Project aims to foster creative convergence-oriented talents and shared growth with local industries. All the members at the University will continue to expand collaboration with businesses by commercializing its creative assets."

Professor Choi added, "Such efforts will contribute to the prosperity of the University and the local community and foster excellent talents."
