Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who is on a state visit to South Korea, and Ajou University President Dong Yeon Kim held 'Talk Concert: Game-Changing Revolution with Young People' at the University.

The event, which was held on the afternoon of May 17th at Yulgok Hall's Grand Auditorium, was attended by about 500 people, including students from the University, Indonesian students in Korea, and high school students in Suwon. Also in attendance were local leaders, including Gyeonggi Provincial Governor Kyung Pil Nam and Suwon City Mayor Tae Young Yeom, and businesspeople.

President Joko Widodo was born to a lower-class family in a small town and won the presidential election, in which the Indonesian ruling elite lost power for the first time. Ajou University President Kim is also a self-made man who rose to the position of minister in the Korean government after graduating from a commercial high school and a nightly college while working as the breadwinner for his family. President Joko Widodo and President Kim organized the talk concert to deliver messages of dreams and hopes to young people from the two countries based on their support for 'Game-Changing Revolution' being pursued by the University.

The one-hour-long event discussed such topics as 'Dreams, hopes, and leadership,' 'Philosophical know-how for communication,' 'Advice for young people,' 'Exchange and cooperation between Korea and Indonesia in the era of Asia,' etc.

President Joko Widodo said, "I had many difficulties since I was born to and raised by carpenter parents in a small town along the river," adding, "My family was poor and I knew I had disadvantages. Therefore, I studied much harder than other friends and often stayed up all night working as a young furniture businessman."

President Joko Widodo went on to say, "It is important to learn not just from the classes at school, but from your experiences in life," advising, "I ask that you 'listen carefully' to what others around you tell you, including family members and friends, and build broad experiences during vacations or holidays."

He stated that he tries to find solutions on the scene at work because he can understand the difficulties people have while talking with them, which helps him to come up with solutions.

When asked for advice from a young businessman seeking to enter Indonesia, President Joko Widodo said, "Recent economic reforms have considerably streamlined the procedures for foreign companies to invest in Indonesia," adding, "I will give you my phone number and call me if you find responses from related institutions inadequate."

President Dong Yeon Kim said, "President Joko Widodo has confronted many challenges with unwavering resolution and determination and risen to today's position with a warm heart and excellent leadership," adding, "Therefore, he is a great role model for young people not just from Korea and Indonesia, but from many other countries in the world."

The talk concert was co-hosted by the University, the Asia Journalist Association (AJA), and The AsiaN. Prior to the main event, President Joko Widodo received the 'AJA Award 2016' from the Asia Journalist Association.

Regarding the presentation of the Award, AJA said, "We acknowledge that President Joko Widodo is turning Indonesia into Asia's model country after taking office by combating corruption and implementing political reforms, etc."
