Ajou is selected as an institution to operate the Research Town Support Project: Designated to carry out joint R&D with 22 SMEs

2016-03-31

Ajou University was selected by the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) as an institution to run the 2016 Research Town Support Project. Through the Project, the University will be able to carry out up to 22 technological development tasks per year with small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Project period is up to two years.

The Project aims to strengthen the research and technical innovation capabilities of SMEs by establishing or relocating their research centers at universities or research institutions with excellent research infrastructure. A total of 13 institutions were selected in 2013, the first year of the Project, and seven institutions including Ajou were newly chosen as operators this year.

SMBA invited applications until February 24th after it announced the '2016 Plan for the Research Town Project' on January 21st. SMBA then evaluated the institutions that submitted applications through on-site assessments and interviews, and the final selections were announced on March 31st.

The University has been assigned a total of 22 SME R&D centers and will receive government contributions of 100 million won per institution. Ajou’s Project Support Team, which played a leading role in the selection, will attract companies wishing to participate in the Project and recommend them to SMBA by April 22nd. SMBA will then announce the final list of participating companies in May after reviewing the joint research proposals of the University and the recommended companies.
