Jeong Hwan Kim (pictured above), a graduate of Ajou University, was appointed as an assistant professor by Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan

After completing his undergraduate course at Ajou (entrance class of 2005, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), Kim was selected as a scholarship student by the Japanese government and obtained his doctoral degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology under joint guidance by Professor Hideo Hosono and Professor Toshio Kamiya, both of whom are world-renowned experts in oxide semiconductors.

Kim's doctoral dissertation is entitled "Materials design and development of novel amorphous oxide semiconductors for light-emitting diodes."

In the dissertation, Kim designed oxide semiconductors for next-generation applications and analyzed their properties, achieving far better performance than existing semiconductors by applying them to elements (TFT and OLED).

In his advice to his juniors at Ajou, Kim said, "The University can offer everything you need, and it is your enthusiasm and effort that decide how much you can get out of it," adding, "I hope that you do not hesitate but move forward, and many alumni are supporting and looking forward to your challenges."

Kim went on to say, "Japan leads the world in basic scientific studies, and Korea has significant influence in the global electronic goods market," adding, "I want to be an excellent and dedicated researcher who combines the strengths of the two countries."
