2015-11-04

On October 31st, Ajou University's School of Medicine held the Science Open Lab entitled "Girls Meet Scientists" for high school girls. The event was organized by Loreal Korea and sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.

The event was prepared to help high school girls wishing to become scientists observe the site of research firsthand, and to provide opportunities for them to explore future careers through mentoring. About 20 high school students who are interested in life science and reside in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do visited the laboratory of Professor Myung Ae Lee (Department of Brain Science) on that day.

In the laboratory, they heard from Professor Lee how medicines for Parkinson´s Disease are being developed by using neural stem cells, and how the technology for induced pluripotent stem cells works. In addition, the students were given opportunities to do experiments.

Professor Lee said, "Through the Science Open Lab, I was able to provide would-be life scientists with an opportunity to look at the site of research. It was also meaningful in that I and the graduate students in my laboratory had time to recall the resolutions we had in the beginning of research."
