NEW Overseas Study Program “Paran Sadari” to Resume, 61 Students Headed to 2 U.S. Universities

Paran Sadari, an overseas study program for university students, will resume. A joint enterprise of the Ministry of Education and the Korea Student Aid Foundation, Paran Sadari was inspired by the Ajou University global campus program, After You.


Paran Sadari will see 61 Ajou University students at the University of Washington and Kettering University in the United States for 2 to 3 weeks learning the English language and experiencing local cultures, among a range of activities.


At the University of Washington, the program will take place over 3 weeks from August 1 with 34 students participating. At Kettering University, the program will take place over 2 weeks from August 8 with 27 students participating. Students who participated in Paran Sadari online last year will take part in the in-person program this year. COVID-19 put Paran Sadari on hold for all of 2020, and relegated it to the online environment for 2021.


The participating students will complete prerequisites in basic English, adaptation to a foreign environment, mentoring, and career-mindedness before leaving Korea.


Paran Sadari was begun in 2018 by the Ministry of Education and Korea Student Aid Foundation as an overseas study program for students from vulnerable backgrounds. It is a government-funded program providing overseas experience to university students affected by hardship but who have shown the drive to develop and succeed in life. Ten Korean universities, including Ajou University, take part in Paran Sadari, each selecting students who will participate from among their own student bodies, as well as students from other universities.


Paran Sadari is an expansion of Ajou University's global campus program, After You, dating back to 2015. After You was created for students experiencing hardship and excluded from opportunities to gain overseas experience. It was funded entirely on outside donations, and saw the selected students spend valuable time at the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Washington in the United States, and at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Beijing Institute of Technology in China.
