A group of 12 Korean language and literature students from Ajou University spent five days in Hanoi, Vietnam, as part of an overseas experience program, itself part of Ajou University’s organized efforts to deliver innovative education through its established departments. The student group stayed in Hanoi, Vietnam, from January 15 to 19, visiting Vietnam National University Hanoi and Thang Long University, sister universities to Ajou University, to meet with students there, and enjoying a range of cultural experiences. The student group was accompanied by Professors Lee Sang-shin and Lee Geonhee.Besides visits to these sister universities, the Ajou University students also attended lectures on culture, went on day trips—including one to a Korean company operating locally—and engaged in research to go toward the completion of team assignments. A group of 10 "buddies,” Thang Long University students, accompanied the Ajou University student group on their itinerary. Planning for the overseas experience program reflected student ideas for activities. The team assignments the students completed during their stay in Vietnam were a study on ways to effectively export modern Korean literature to Vietnam, a study of different aspects of literature influenced by the Vietnam War based on an understanding of that conflict, an analysis of the popularity of Korean webtoons in Vietnam and ways to promote cultural exchanges between Korea and Vietnam, and a study of what Korean language education in Vietnam looks like. The students visited Segyung Hitech, a Korean company operating in Vietnam, and spent time with staff learning about business in country, the local job market, and how Korean businesses and Korean culture are perceived by the locals. An opportunity for Ajou University students to experience foreign culture, the program brought students of Ajou University and its sister universities in Vietnam together for a bonding experience. As students of Korean language and literature, the visiting students got to experience firsthand and reflect on how Korean culture and language are received in the foreign locales they reach. The overseas experience program was part of the Department of Korean Language and Literature’s organized efforts to deliver innovative education. Officially known as the “Project for the Development of Innovative Education Departments” and in execution Ajou University-wide, the efforts began in 2023 and will continue until the end of 2025. The goal of the project is to support the departments at Ajou University in achieving the kind of educational innovation that sets an example to be followed. The inaugural AUT International Winter School program was held at Ajou University in Tashkent (AUT) for students on break over the winter. The program took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where AUT is located, from January 8 to 12. An opportunity for Ajou University students to experience foreign culture, the program brought students of Ajou University and AUT together for a bonding experience. Students who completed the program received one credit. Fifty-eight students from 16 departments at Ajou University, including the Department of Culture and Contents, the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, completed the program. The group of students was led by Kim Yong Hyun, Dean of the College of Humanities and Kim Jong Sik, Dean of the Division of International Studies. Over their five-day stay at AUT the students attended lectures on culture, took field trips to tourist sites, companies, and institutions, completed team assignments, and spent time with their AUT buddies. Such activities were planned in reflection of ideas submitted by the students who participated in the program. Fifteen AUT students accompanied the group of Ajou University students around Tashkent as “buddies.”Among the assignments the students undertook as part of the program were to suggest ways to reduce irrigation loss in farming to address Uzbekistan’s water shortages, to suggest designs for center bus lanes on Tashkent roads using road and traffic examples in Korea to improve Tashkent's public transport system, and to engage in comparative analysis of the lifestyles of Koreans in Korea and ethnic Koreans in Uzbekistan. A hub for trade via the Silk Road in antiquity, the visiting student group had the opportunity to engage in a valuable experience with Tashkent’s Central Asian history and culture. The students visited a number of Korean entities operating in Uzbekistan such as KT, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency, as well as UNICEF, where they spent time interacting with staff to understand the organizations’ visions for Uzbekistan and the progress they have made. Jung Ga-young, a history major and one of the participating students, commented “The program and our AUT buddies gave us cool experiences in Uzbekistan,” and “What we learned in Uzbekistan will help us complete a team assignment to come up with ideas on ways to export Korean beauty and cosmetic products.”The 2024 AUT International Winter School, organized by the AUT Business Group and International Exchanges Team, was a sibling to the 2023 Ajou International Summer School, which took place at Ajou University over two weeks the previous summer, bringing to Ajou University 26 students from sister universities around the world and 20 AUT students for Korean language training and tourism. Founded by Ajou University in February 2021, AUT offers both its own curriculum and curricula from Ajou University. Its next group of graduates will finish their programs this coming June. AUT currently has 1,516 students registered.The Ajou University undergraduate programs available at AUT are in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Systems Engineering, and Architecture. Conferred on AUT graduates of these disciplines is a degree issued by Ajou University. The Graduate School of Information and Communication Technology at Ajou University will be participating in the Korea International Cooperation Agency’s Indonesian Cyber Security Expert Training Capacity Development Program, set to be executed over two years until 2026 on a budget of KRW 3.7 billion.The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is undertaking the project to help Indonesia advance its vocational training in the area of cyber security and grow competitively in related areas. Participants in the program will develop curricula and content, provide training to teaching personnel, and create an integrated platform for education and professional development.Ajou University has formed a consortium with Dudu IT, a Korean cyber security company, to contribute to the program. The team from Ajou University set to participate in the program comprises professors and doctoral students in the Department of Cyber Space and the Department of Software and Computer Engineering.The immediate objective of the program is to apply information and communications technology to the creation of a system for education and professional development of Indonesia’s cyber security experts to improve that nation’s capability to respond to cyber security risks. The long-term benefit Indonesia will enjoy from success of the program is improved industrial competitiveness both at home and abroad.KOICA and the program participants, including Ajou University, will be working with polytechnic universities operated in Bogor, West Java, by Indonesia’s National Cyber and Crypto Agency. The polytechnic universities will develop effective systems and curricula, and become able to provide theoretical and practical training in both online and physical environments. Other aspects of the program include systematic support of professional development of cyber security personnel in a variety of fields and the installation of new facilities for cyber security vocational training.

Two research teams from Ajou University have been selected for the fourth leg of the BK21 Project (Brain Korea 21: Fostering Outstanding Universities for Research), a national project which produces graduates of postgraduate studies who will go on to play a role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the response to the changing population structure, and other important areas.One selected research team is from Ajou University’s Department of Mathematics and one from its Department of Pharmacy. The “Ajou Future Mathematical Scientist Education and Research Team” is led by Professor Choi Soo-young and aims to develop data-based mathematical scientists. The Department of Mathematics at Ajou University has successfully operated curricula in basic and industrial mathematics, and supports its students in gaining practical experience through education structured as projects that are completed in partnership with businesses and other industrial entities. The “Education and Research Team for the Development of Future Developers of Innovative New Drugs for Barriome Control” is led by Professor Chang Sun-Young and aims to understand the role of barriome in disease occurrence and create a platform for the development of new drugs based on the understanding obtained. Ultimately, it will develop groundbreaking new drugs that regulate barriome. In support of its goal it will train scientists through specialized and convergence curriculums.The two research teams will engage in the fourth leg of the BK21 Project until August 2027. This latest selection will see Ajou University contribute to this leg of the BK21 Project through five research groups and two research teams. Four of the five research groups were formed in August 2020: the “Chem-bio-medicine Education and Research Group” from the Department of Molecular Science and Technology (Professor Kim Yong-Sung), the “Carbon-zero Renewable Energy System Project Group” from the Department of Energy Systems (Professor Jang Hye-Young), the “Ajou Dream AI Innovator Development Group” from the Department of Software and Computer Engineering (Professor Sohn Kyung-Ah) and the “Next-generation Super-intelligent Network Convergence Education and Research Group” from the Department of Software and Computer Engineering (Professor Ko Young-Bae). The last of the five research groups, formed in May this year, is the “Intelligent Semiconductor Sensor Star Innovator Education and Research Group” from the Department of Intelligent Semiconductor Engineering (Heo Junseok).The BK21 Project commenced in 1999 and is executed in seven-year legs. It is currently in the fourth iteration. Groups participating in the fourth leg of the BK21 Project will receive funding for seven years, until August 2027. A budget of KRW 3.2 trillion has been set aside for the enterprise, with KRW 526.1 billion of it allotted in 2023.

Ajou University has been selected for the Ministry of Education’s LAMP Project and is set to receive KRW 14.8 billion in funding over 5 years. “LAMP” stands for “Learning and Academic research institution for master’s and PhD students, and Postdocs,” and the LAMP Project was greenlit by the Ministry of Education just this year to promote groundbreaking joint research in the basic sciences. A joint endeavor of the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, the LAMP Project has so far added eight universities to its roster. Ajou University and Seoul National University were selected in the Seoul region, and Kangwon National University, Kyungpook National University, Pusan National University, Pukyong National University, Gyeongsang National University, and Chosun University were selected from the provinces. The participating universities will each select one of the 10 basic sciences and pursue innovative joint research that is theme-based and not restricted by subject or major. Over each of the five years, the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea will provide annual funding of around KRW 3 billion. The participating universities will manage and support research activities and infrastructure internally, and run “focused theme research centers” where large joint research projects will take place. Full-time professors and postdoctoral researchers are among the research personnel to be recruited for the endeavor. Ajou University will contribute to the LAMP Project through research in materials and energy science. The Institute of NT-IT Fusion Technology at Ajou University, hitherto active in this area of research, will be reformed and expanded into the Institute of Next-generation Energy Science by way of the focused theme research center envisioned by the LAMP Project. Ajou University has put together a postdoctoral research team of 20 for the LAMP Project, 14 of whom will serve full-time, to lead large joint research activities defined by important themes.Ajou University has placed Ahn Byungmin, Chief of the Office of Research Information, as Chief of the LAMP Project Group. Commenting on the task at hand, Ahn stated, “Ajou University’s organization and systems for research will receive attention to enable capable new researchers to work to their full potential and provide them with support that combines Ajou University’s human and material resources.” He added, “Ajou University will do its best to produce, through the LAMP Project, research achievements of future value.”

The Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University has held an international symposium themed as “Civil Society in Asia.” Held in the Media Conference Room in the Yulgok Building on the 8th, the symposium rallied students of the Graduate School of International Studies for presentations and discussions. The academic event opened with an address by Chang Byeong-Yun, Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies. The first presentation was given by Ochgerel Tsedenbal, a civil sociology student, on “Developing Volunteerism in Mongolia: Policy Recommendations and Strategic Analysis.” The second presentation was given by Abigail Amon, also a civil sociology student, on “Aspirations and Sustainability of Youth HIV Civil Society Organizations in the Philippines.”The third and last presentation was given by Ram Pravir Kumar, another civil sociology student, on “The Role of Civil Society in Consolidating Democracies in India and the Republic of Korea, 1991-2021: A Case Study.”The presentations were followed by student discussions involving a panel made up of students McKenzie Antonette Gooding, Annie Favour Chioma, Kevin Orlando Roa Gomez, and Veronika Basiuk engaged in Q&A and discussions with the students that had given the presentations. The discussions were moderated by Kang Shin Goo, Professor of Political Science at the Graduate School of International Studies.Since the first Ajou GSIS International Symposium was held in 1997, the Graduate School of International Studies has continued the tradition every year as an opportunity for international students to share insights that can help with their studies and personal and academic growth.Established in 1996, the Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University has produced around 1,300 graduates to date. The graduates, from 77 countries, are today active in their respective fields around the world. The Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University currently offers programs in International Business, International Trade, International Development and Cooperation, NGO Studies, Energy Studies, and Civil Society Studies.

The first group of international students to complete the Big Data Specialist (BDS) program at the Graduate School of Information and Communication Technology at Ajou University has graduated. Ajou’s BDS program was created in 2022 to educate international students in both IT and business management. Students who undertake the BDS program gain an understanding of the latest IT trends and proficiencies that span IT and business administration.[KH1]A graduation ceremony was held in the Paldal Building on the 12th. In attendance were the 11 graduates and some 50 current BDS students, who were joined by Dean Yeh Hong Jin, Associate Dean Chung Tae-Sun, and Honorary Professor Kim Minkoo of the Graduate School of Information and Communication Technology, among others. Spread over three semesters, the BDS program includes data analysis and machine learning as essential components, while social analytics, HR analytics, big data and business management, and other learning components that combine IT and business administration education can be chosen at individual students’ discretion. The BDS curriculum is friendly even for those who have not previously studied IT or computer science. The Graduate School of Information and Communication Technology welcomed the first 11 students to its BDS program in the second semester of 2022, and a further 55 in 2023. Graduates of the BDS program go on to doctoral studies or embark on a promising career as big data specialists. Established in 1998, the Graduate School of Information and Communication Technology at Ajou University is a specialized education provider for professionals and military personnel that has to date produced over 2,900 graduates. In addition to the BDS program, the Graduate School of Information and Communication Technology offers programs in cyber security, cyber security and C4I (command, control, communication, and intelligence), information communication, information communication and C4I, intelligent software, Internet of Things, and C4ISR (C4I surveillance and reconnaissance).

The Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) has nominated the Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University to provide a master’s program to state officials from Latin American and Caribbean countries starting next year. The IADB currently operates the Korea-LAC (Latin America/Caribbean) Tech Corps Program, which promotes technical cooperation and personnel exchanges between Korea and Latin America through degree programs in information and communications technology (ICT) and public administration offered at Korean universities, and Korean ICT expert (37 years of age or younger) participation in innovation projects taking place in Latin America. The Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University is now one of those participating Korean universities. Middle managers with Latin American and Caribbean governments will receive education at Ajou University on scholarships provided by the IADB and Ajou University.Starting next year, up to 26 such government officials will be selected by Ajou University to complete an 18-month master’s program in public innovative ICT management. Graduates of the program will receive a joint master’s degree in public administration and business administration. Established in 1959, the IADB is the largest financial backer of regional development in the Americas. Among its roles are financing and technical cooperation for economic and social development of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is headquartered in Washington D.C. and has offices in 26 Latin American countries. Established in 1996, the Graduate School of International Studies at Ajou University has produced around 1,000 graduates in the intervening 26 years. The graduates are from 77 countries, and are active today in their respective fields around the world. Ajou University held the Ajou International Week event with Ajou University in Tashkent (AUT) in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Celebrations took place across Ajou University’s campus, including Gaon Garden, over the three days from November 7th to 9th, bringing together current and former students of different nationalities for networking and bonding. Ajou International Week with AUT was co-organized with Ajou University in Tashkent (AUT), and proceedings were streamed live on YouTube.[KH1]AUT was established by Ajou University in February 2021 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan and the largest city in Central Asia. A joint endeavor of the Uzbek government and Ajou University, AUT combines government-supplied land and buildings with Ajou education. At present there are six departments with students taking four-year programs.Ajou International Week with AUT opened with the homecoming of Ajou University’s international alumni on the evening of the 7th, in which seven graduates took the stage to speak to those present on their time at Ajou University and the journeys that followed. Current international students at Ajou University attended the event for refreshments and to listen to the former students’ stories. The event was held in Lounge 027 on the first floor of the library.The homecoming alumni, now active in their respective fields around the world, were encouraged by the International Exchanges Team at Ajou University to write an essay on how their time at Ajou University has shaped their lives. Also accepted were essays by current people at Ajou University that reflect on memorable international alumni. Aanu Afolabi, an Ajou political science graduate who is now a lawyer in the UK, was one of the alumni that spoke at Ajou International Week with AUT. He said, “If, as a foreign student, you think certain opportunities will not come your way, it’s up to you to actively search them out,” adding that “Ajou University is always ready to give you a chance.” “Dream big!” was how he ended his speech. Afolabi began his studies at Ajou University in 2013, and in 2014 he became the first international student at Ajou University to become head of student residence. During his time at Ajou University, he spoke of his aspiration to become an international lawyer and help improve education in his home country of Nigeria. Upon graduating he moved to the UK where he is now a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. The other international alumni that participated in the day’s event were Rize Jin of China, a professor at Tiangong University in China; Douglas Asuako-Ferkah Arhinkorah of Ghana, an official at the Environmental Protection Agency in Ghana; Erin Poindexter of the US, a partnership and resource development coordinator in the field of family and children's development in the US; Liaochen Liyin of China, a developer with the Alibaba Group in China; Tegegne Tesfaye Haile of Ethiopia, an assistant professor at Suwon University in Korea; and Theresia Ratih Dewi of Indonesia, a professor at the University of Ciputra in Indonesia. Sunniva Bratt Slette of Norway, a portfolio manager at Storebrand Asset Management, and Olimakhon Ergasheva of Uzbekistan, a student, joined in via webcam. The second day of the event saw the 2023 Study Abroad Fair and an international student conference. Held in the Innovation Lounge in the Yulgok Building from 2 to 4 pm, the 2023 Study Abroad Fair brought together Ajou students interested in studying abroad and those who have studied abroad for networking and information sharing. The international student conference took place in Conference Room 1 in the Yulgok Building from 6 to 8 pm. The topic was education, on which the participating international students gave presentations reflective of cultures and ideas associated with their respective countries and engaged in discussion. The conference was attended by 20 international students and 10 members of Nubi Ajou, the volunteer community of Korean students at Ajou University. On the final day of the event, International Day was celebrated at Gaon Garden on the Ajou University campus. International students ran booths dedicated to the food and culture of their home countries, which included Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, and Indonesia. The event began with an opening parade in which the students entered the event grounds in traditional attire and holding their national flags. Ajou University ranked in 501-600th place in the 2024 THE World University Rankings. It moved up this year with better scores in education, research quality, industry, and international outlook than last year.Ajou University ranked in 501-600th place in the recently-released 2024 THE World University Rankings. Among Korean universities, it ranked ninth, jumping by 100 places from its 601-800th rank last year.Times Higher Education (THE) is a UK university assessment institution that releases the World University Rankings annually along with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2024 rankings included 1,904 universities in 108 countries. This year, Ajou University recorded higher scores in most performance indicators compared to last year, with remarkable improvements in research quality & industry and industry & teaching pillars. This is the result of Ajou faculty members’ hard work and the university’s support for research performance and broader application of technology. Ajou University has been dedicated to recruiting excellent faculty members and strengthening its research environment by creating a quality-based outstanding thesis award, expanding research funding for new faculty, inviting quality researchers from overseas academic conferences, and increasing support for international industry-university collaborative research.Furthermore, Ajou University has strived to bolster industry-university cooperation toward ensuring that technology developed at Ajou becomes widely used across society. By participating in government-sponsored projects, including LINC 3.0, Ajou University has expanded its exchanges and cooperation with companies and specialists. It has also made efforts to increase technology commercialization by having its technology commercialization team provide strong, tailored support to researchers.Efforts for education innovation are also underway, such as the “Paran Semester: Ajou Challenge Semester” program. Launched in 2016, the Paran Semester allows students to earn credits by proposing and carrying out tasks. Over a total of 15 semesters, from the first semester of 2016 to the first semester of 2023, 1,623 students in 419 teams have participated in the program. For the second semester of 2023, 186 students in 42 teams are participating.The “Paran Semester: Extreme” and “Paran Semester: MOOC” programs were introduced in 2019 and 2021, respectively, to expand the scope of students’ endeavors and have them tackle more challenging tasks. The Paran Semester: Extreme program encourages students to take interest in social issues and seek solutions themselves. The Paran Semester: MOOC program enables students to choose from among open online courses offered by universities globally, create their own curriculum, and earn credits. Ajou University operates various educational programs in which students participate voluntarily to strengthen their convergence capabilities. Among them are “Course Pairing,” where students solve problems using the knowledge and techniques they have learned from two or more courses; “Micro Major,” consisting of 9 to 15 credits, and “Student-designed Major.” These programs allow students to pursue their studies in specific areas of interest more deeply and extensively. The Student-designed Major program is scheduled to commence from the second semester of this year.Jwa Myeong-hyeon (Department of Mechanical Engineering, 22), the first student to participate in the Student-designed Major program, said, “I created a curriculum related to the basics of topological physics based on mathematics and physics courses. I want to study topological physics and become a researcher involved in diverse applications of this field of study in multiple disciplines, including mechanical engineering.” As topological physics combines physics, mathematics, and mechanical engineering, Jwa plans to take the courses of his choosing over five semesters.In its long-term development plan, “Ajou Vision 5.0,” Ajou University, marking its 50th anniversary, set four goals: cultivation of future-oriented talents, achievement of world-class research outcomes, realization of social values, and achievement of global competitiveness. To this end, Ajou University intends to strengthen new normal convergence education, foster a future value research ecosystem, build an industry-university co-prosperity platform, and promote Ajou as a global university. THE assesses 18 performance indicators in five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry. This year, the number of indicators was increased from 13 to 18, still in five areas, and a few indicators were renamed. Teaching is assessed based on student-staff ratio, institutional income, and teaching reputation; research environment, based on research reputation, research income, and research productivity; research quality, based on citation impact, research strength, research influence, and research excellence; international outlook, based on international students, international staff, and international co-authorship; and, finally, industry, based on industry income and patents. In the 2024 THE World University Rankings, Oxford University ranked No. 1 for the eighth year in a row. Standford University of the United States ranked second, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranked third. The top 20 positions were largely occupied by universities of the United States and UK. Among Asian universities, Tsinghua University of China ranked 12th globally and first in Asia, followed by Peking University (14th) and the National University of Singapore (19th). The summer 2023 performance presentation for Paran Sadari was held. Paran Sadari is an overseas training program organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation to help financially-disadvantaged university students with their self-development and career exploration efforts.The performance presentation was held on September 20 in the video conference room of Ajou University’s Yulgok Hall, attended by President Choi Kee-choo, university staff, and program participants, who had visited George Mason University and University of Washington in July. The students shared their experiences, achievements, and memories of their time during the training. The event also featured a conversation with the president, award presentation, prize lottery, and tea party.This summer, the Paran Sadari program was conducted at George Mason University and the University of Washington, both in the United States. A total of 50 students, including 42 Ajou University students and eight students from two other universities in the Seoul metropolitan zone, were divided into two groups of 25 for each university. The students attended an intensive English program for three weeks in July and August and participated in various experiential activities. George Mason University is a state university engaged in advanced research in Fairfax, Virgina, and the University of Washington is a public university in Seattle, Washington.Park Seung-eun, one of the program participants (Cybersecurity, age 20, George Mason University), said, "While I talked about various topics with students there, I was impressed by their dedication and passion for their studies and life. I made up my mind to become a person who has a dream and works hard to achieve it."Yang Dong-min (Transportation Systems, age 18, University of Washington) said, "I planned to find and record at least one piece of knowledge about transportation related to my major every day during the program. The program gave me a valuable opportunity to broaden my horizons and gain experience."To the students, President Choi Kee-choo said, "I hope the Paran Sadari program helped motivate you to realize your dreams. I urge you to share the valuable information and experiences you have gained with other participants of future sessions.” Paran Sadari is an overseas training program for financially-disadvantaged students. It was originally based on Ajou University’s AFTER YOU program, which was launched in 2015. Organized by the Ministry of Education and Korea Student Aid Foundation, the program has supported training costs for 850 students from 17 universities nationwide. Host universities are divided into: the Seoul metropolitan zone, Chungcheong/Gangwon zone, Honam/Jeju zone, Daegu/Gyeongbuk zone, and Busan/Ulsan zone. In the Seoul metropolitan zone, Ajou University, Ansan University, and Osan University participated. The host universities operate training programs and provide the participants with career mentoring before and after the program.Participants are selected based on their future potential and commitment to self-development instead of credits and language proficiency, which are the criteria used by Ajou University’s AFTER YOU program. The Canadian contingent of World Scout Jamboree 2023 who stayed at Ajou University returned home safely. A total of 200 Canadian Scouts who withdrew from the camping site at Saemangeum due to the northern advancement of a typhoon stayed at Ajou University dormitory and continued their activities there for four days from August 8.A farewell event was held for the Canadian students on the morning of August 12 at the New Student Union Building of Ajou University. On behalf of the 200 members, the leader and students delivered greetings and shared their memories of the World Scout Jamboree and Ajou University.James Cadence said, “Although the situation was not what we expected, we are glad to have had this new experience. We thank Ajou University for offering the best dormitory and meals.” The university prepared refreshments and souvenirs for the Scouts. Drinks were also donated by Kim Jin-hwan, who lives near the university, to welcome and encourage the Canadian Scouts.A total of 200 Canadian Jamboree Scouts, including leaders, arrived at Ajou University in the afternoon of August 8. Although it was an quick decision, as World Scout Jamboree members had to leave Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do, due to Typhoon Khanun’s advance north, Ajou University acted promptly to ensure the convenience and safety of the Scouts.Dormitory facilities were prepared based on the exact number of Scouts and their gender ratio. As the Canadian Scouts arrived in teams, orientations were held on Ajou University and its dormitory facilities. During the Scouts’ stay, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks such as fruit and fried chicken, were provided in the dormitory dining room. The Scouts participated in various cultural and experiential events prepared by Suwon City, including a tour of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and visits to galleries, art centers, and museums.The World Scout Jamboree event is organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement every four years. It is attended by youths aged 14 to 17 from all over the world. This year’s 25th World Scout Jamboree was held in Saemangeum, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Before the arrival of the Scouts at Ajou University, welcome kits containing slippers and toiletries were prepared. Fruit, sandwiches, and drinks were also on hand.
