Ajou is opening the 'Research Center for Futuristic Combat Systems Network' after being designated as a research institution by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA)

[16.10.24]

Ajou University is set to establish the 'Research Center for Futuristic Combat Systems Network and Technology' after being designated as a research institution by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

DAPA selects universities and government-invested research institutes with strengths in certain fields and is providing extensive support to them to secure essential defense-related technologies and induce excellent research talents to participate in defense-related research and development.

Ajou's research center will play a central role in bringing together research talents from the domestic academic world, developing original technologies necessary for defense-related applied research, and building researcher capabilities. In particular, the center will focus on developing fundamental technologies for the futuristic combat systems network that can accommodate weapons with innovative concepts and functions in the future theater environment. Professor Jae Sung Lim will lead the research center.

DAPA selected 13 universities as specialized research centers, including Ajou University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology, and Soongsil University.

Professor Lim said, "In future combat environments, we will see a network infrastructure where many users and different devices are converged," adding, "In such a complex environment, we will have to overcome the technological limitations of simply providing the communication link for the existing tactical network."

Officials from DAPA, the Agency for Defense Development, the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, and specialized research centers will attend Ajou's research center opening event scheduled for November 10th.
