Ajou was selected by the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) as the only operator of the Creative Factory Project. In late October, SMBA announced that it was selecting the institution to operate the Project.

The first phase of the Project concludes next May with a total budget of 500 million won, and then it can be extended another year. If the period is extended, the University is expected to receive about 5 billion won for the second year for installing equipment and operating the Project.

The Creative Factory is a platform to provide comprehensive support from idea planning, design, and development to market penetration to those who start their own businesses. It aims to help them quickly commercialize their creative ideas and technologies.

Ajou plans to establish a tailored support system covering every stage in commercializing their ideas and technologies and to join hands with the five prototype-manufacturing sites run by local SMBA offices and other Creative Factories.

For the Creative Factory Project, a 1,051㎡ space will be arranged within the Campus Plaza and the Center for Industry-University Cooperation complete with the following facilities: the 'One-stop Counseling Center for Business Start-up,' which will help those starting their own businesses address related challenges; the 'Business Start-up Café,' which will be open to anyone wishing to share information on starting businesses; the 'Ajou Tech Shop' where people can make test products based on their ideas; and the 'Advanced Lab' where people can make prototype products with the help of experts.
