A team of three graduate students from Ajou University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering won the Excellence Award at a student paper contest hosted by the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers (KIISE).

The award-winners – Seok Won Kim, Seong Woo Hong, and Jeong Chan Jin (guiding professor Young Jin Kim) – took home the Award at the 36th Student Paper Contest with their paper entitled “Image Quality Evaluation in Consideration of Calculation Speed and Invariance to Distortions.” The team received 1 million won in prize money and the award ceremony is scheduled to be held on June 19th during the upcoming Korea Computer Congress.

The students have been conducting research on the manipulation and evaluation of images that can best satisfy human eyesight and the optimization of their electricity supply and capacities at the Embedded Computing and Systems Laboratory. Jeong Chan Jin, one of the award-winners, has received prizes the last two years at the same contest.

Established in 1973, KIISE is South Korea's largest academic society in computing and has about 4,300 researchers as its members.
