Dear students,

With the new semester starting and the spring emerges, I hope everyone is getting adjusted to a new experience at Ajou even we still live with COVID-19 dangers around us. At least, it is good to see that the flowers are about to bloom and the weather is getting warmer these days. Today, I am writing you to sincerely ask for all international students’ help to be extra cautious on safety issues during your stay with us.

We understand that it is a difficult time for everyone, and therefore, matured behavior and endurance are highly required especially in the circumstances where many international people are staying together on campus. As you all are aware of the current situation on COVID-19 in Korea, more than 400 confirmed cases continuously occur daily, and the government still prohibits gathering more than 5 people, and also, schools at all levels including Ajou are not able to resume normal offline courses and activities, and still have to depend on limited offline lectures and educational activities.

These days, starting from the beginning of March, a tremendous number of international people including students, scholars, and workers from many different countries are entering Korea, and some varying viruses also occurred in Korea, and the government started requiring all foreign workers in Korea to receive COVID-19 test recently. The situation is quite serious! In addition, there have been clusters of infections in group facilities like in university dormitories near Suwon.  In regards to such incidents, we strongly ask students not to visit densely populated and closed areas such as pubs and clubs where air-circulation is limited which can bring a high risk of COVID-19 spread. Since most of our international students are living in group facilities, like dormitories and shared apartments, students should understand that being extra cautious about their own health is not only for their own safety but also for our neighbors’ safety no matter where they are from.

Students, again, we are sincerely asking to be extra cautious on your behaviors, and listen to our instructions diligently. Please remember that any individual person’s immature behavior can put everyone at high risk, high costs for extra work, inconveniences to be quarantined, and many others not to mention about it.

OIA has been distributing information regarding your campus life and COVID-19 ever since you have arrived in Korea. The information we give out to you is the most accurate, official, and up-to-date information. So please be sure to read your emails on a regular basis and announcements on our website (oia.ajou.ac.kr) to follow the instruction to safely stay at Ajou University to achieve what you have aimed in the beginning.

We highly appreciate your understanding and active cooperation.

Thank you.
