Our school's mathematics department conducted "2024 AJOU-KYUSHU SUMMER SCHOOL ON APPLIED MATHEMATICS," a short-term training course linked to industry-academic cooperation with Kyushu University in Japan.

The program is consisted of three days of online education from July 2nd to 4th and five days of education and projects at Kyushu University from July 8th to 12th. Total 25 students majoring in mathematics from the two universities participated, and 12 students from our school participated.

The training was led by Osamu Saeki, the professor of the Kyushu University Institute of Mathematics for Industry (IMI) and Professor Park Bo-ram, head of our school's mathematics department. And Professor Pierluigi Chesana, Nguyen Dinh Hoa of Kyushu University and Professor, Shin Dong-wook of the mathematics department of Ajou University were in charge of teaching and project guidance.

Professor Kwon Soon-sun, who heads the Ajou Industrial Mathematics and Statistics Center at our university, and Dr. Kim Min-jong of the National Institute of Mathematical Sciences gave an IMI colloquium lecture to lay the foundation for cooperation between the two universities in the field of applied and industrial mathematics.

Following the training, mathematics students at our school will hold class “Applied industrial mathematics seminars” and give a performance presentation in October.

Kim Dong-gun, a student of Ajou, said, "It was a relatively short period of time, but I had a very meaningful experience of gathering unfamiliar students to communicate and share mathematics," adding, "As I proceeded with the project, I looked forward to the future of studying mathematics in depth with mathematicians around the world."

Professor Park Bo-ram, head of Ajou University's mathematics department, said, "Thanks to the students who showed active participation and excellent project, we were able to gain experience of international cooperation through mathematics.", adding, “We plan to continue exchanges in the future by holding an Ajou-Kyushu joint academic conference at Ajou University this fall.”

Meanwhile, the program was organized as part of the 'Project to Support the Development and Operation of Overseas Joint Industry-Academic Cooperation Education Model' by the 4 STEP BK21 Project and LINC 3.0 Project in Mathematics. With the aim of fostering global talent, Ajou University is striving to develop and operate global educational models by promoting developing of collaborative textbooks and operating lectures with professors from leading overseas universities conducting overseas universities and companies visits Planning Global Co-Education Projects by establishing a cooperative system for industry-academia cooperation abroad.
