On September 2nd, Ajou University held a ceremony in the Video Conference Room, etc. for celebrating the opening of Research Town in relation to the Technological Development Project through Industry, Academia, and Research Institute Collaboration.

Under the Project, R&D centers of small- and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) are established in Research Town and carry out research activities on campus with professors specializing in the relevant fields. The Research Town Project aims to develop a win-win system between businesses and the University.

Earlier this year, Ajou was selected as an institution to run the Research Town Project. The University is set to carry out research collaborations with nineteen SMEs and receive 1.59 billion won in government contributions. The project period is up to two years. The University can receive up to 100 million won for R&D in the first year and another 100 million won for R&D and technological commercialization in the second year based on performance evaluation.

Ajou Research Town is located at the Campus Plaza with a total of 911 square meters and was designed to conveniently support R&D, the creation of prototype products, and commercialization, etc. Ajou's professors will work together with businesses on different research tasks.

President Dong Yeon Kim said, "I expect that Research Town will help the businesses and other participants adapt to the fast-changing world," adding, "I will provide every possible support for the successful operation of the Town."

The ceremony was attended by President Kim, Suwon City Mayor Tae Young Yeom, and Chairman Dong Seok Suh of the Korea Association of Universities, Research Institutes, and Industries as well as CEOs of the businesses that have R&D centers at Research Town.
