The Graduate School of Education is now offering a new program in AI convergence education. Now that the school has been authorized to join the Ministry of Education’s Program for the Enhancement of Teachers’ Capability for AI Convergence Education, it will recruit master’s candidates to specialize in the new track from this coming fall semester.

The new program is specifically designed to train and develop a workforce capable of bringing innovation to school education and classroom environments in a way that reflects the needs of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The goal is to produce teachers and educators capable of leading innovation in education and pedagogics so as to enable future generations to acquire basic AI literacy in a systematic manner, converging it with knowledge on other subjects to hone their creative problem-solving skills.

The Ministry of Education unveiled its plans last year to support the creation of AI convergence education programs in select graduate schools of education nationwide, and enable future elementary and middle school teachers to take the program for four consecutive semesters. Those who specialize in this field will go on to handle various subjects with major AI emphases after obtaining a master’s degree.

The Graduate School of Education at Ajou University thus entered into partnership with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the management of such a program. The school is now looking to hire the related teachers, recommended by the Office of Education, into the program. The school will also seek graduate students with an interest in AI and convergence.

The program consists of two tracks: an AI education track and an AI convergence education track. The former will train participants on theories of AI and AI education based on mathematics and software. The latter will focus on teaching new AI-based pedagogics.

Lee Hyeon-cheon, Dean of the School, commented: “With the creation of this new program, we have committed ourselves to training and producing future teachers capable of leading AI-based innovation in education.”
