Ajou University President Hyung Ju Park discussed expanding exchanges with presidents from other Northeast Asian universities at Yanbian University in China.

The Presidential Forum of Northeast Asian Universities was held from September 20th to the 22nd as part of events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Yanbian University, which is located in Yanji City of China's Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture with 50% of its faculty members being ethnic Koreans.

The Forum was attended by presidents from a total of 30 universities, including Seoul National University and Pusan National University in South Korea, Jilin University in China, Meiji University in Japan, and Kim Il-sung University in North Korea.

President Park joined the discussion under the theme "Peace and the Future of University Education in Northeast Asia" during the Presidential Roundtable of Northeast Asian Universities.

He said, "Considering that quality lectures and information are now being provided over the Internet, universities should focus on their respective expertise and expand cooperation with other institutions," adding, "They should also play their role in society by contributing to addressing social issues."

During his stay in China, President Park met with Ajou University alumni, including Professor Yeon Hee Park of Yanbian University (doctoral degree from Ajou's Department of Cyber Security), Professor Yong Ho Kim of Yanbian University Hospital (Department of Orthopedic Surgery, master's and doctoral degrees from Ajou's School of Medicine), Professor Il Hwa Choi (Department of Hematology, master's and doctoral degrees from Ajou's School of Medicine), and local businessperson Hwa Na Kwon. They asked for support for academic exchanges and research activities, to which President Park gave a positive response.

President Park also discussed bilateral cooperation with Yanbian University’s Dean of the College of Engineering (attraction of Chinese students to Ajou's College of Information Technology) and Dean of the College of Humanities (academic and student exchanges with Ajou's counterpart), etc.
