On the afternoon of August 28th, Ajou University held an orientation in Yulgok Hall’s Video Conference Room for participants of the Paran Semester, which was launched in 2016. The program allows students to design their own activities and receive credits based on the results.

For this fall semester, 69 students of 16 teams have chosen to take part in the program.

The tasks selected by the participating students include making protective materials for electrical wires to prevent damage by birds, providing solutions to improve the convenience of people who have difficulties using public transportation, developing video-aided donations and arranging a video show, and investigating the influence the Ajou University soccer team has on the local community.

President Hyung Ju Park told the students, "I hope that Paran Semester will be an opportunity for you to develop and grow further, rather than just being another challenge."

He went on to say, "Selected Paran Semester participants will be able to tour CES scheduled for this coming January in Las Vegas of the U.S. through the scholarship funds provided by SK Group. This will allow you to experience the challenging spirit and prominent startup companies from around the world."

A total of 775 students have participated in the Paran Semester over the last eight semesters. Students should design programs on their own to apply for Paran Semester and receive 3-18 regular credits if the tasks are successfully completed. There is no limitation of the areas in which students may design their tasks, i.e., the humanities, culture and arts, community services, globalization, and industry-academia cooperation. It is also possible to choose or revise programs from among those suggested by the University or professors.
