China's Rizhao City delegation led by Mayor Li Yonghong visited Ajou University to discuss bilateral cooperation.

On November 29th, Mayor Li Yonghong, an alumnus of Ajou University Graduate School of International Studies, and other municipal officials met with University President Hyung Ju Park and introduced the current status of Rizhao. The delegation included Chairman Bai Wen Hui and Vice President Du Lin of Shandong Foreign Languages Vocational College and Deputy Director Shi Feng from the People's Hospital of Rizhao. President Hee Sug Ryu and other officials from Ajou University Medical Center also joined the meeting.

Rizhao is a city located in China’s southeastern Shandong Province with a population of 3 million and an area of 5,300 square kilometers, about half the size of Gyeonggi Province. In 2002, Mayor Li, who is also serving as the Rizhao Communist Party Deputy Secretary, obtained his master's degrees in mathematics and international business at Ajou and has maintained his interest in the University since then.

The delegation participated in an introduction to the University and the University Medical Center and toured the campus, followed by a working-level meeting between the two sides. The visiting group also participated in a welcoming event prepared by international students from China and other countries. Mayor Li spoke with the international students on their lives in Korea and shared words of encouragement.

During the event, the University presented the Ajou World Leadership Award to Mayor Li, which is given to graduates who have enhanced the University's reputation through excellent leadership. Mayor Li was acknowledged for not only leading economic innovation in Shandong Province, but also contributing to attracting foreign companies and improving the livelihood of citizens.

President Park said, "I expect that this visit will be a meaningful step for cooperation between Rizhao and Ajou University," adding, "I hope that we will be able to steadily carry out exchanges and projects of mutual interest in the future."

In addition, Mayor Li had an opportunity to meet and exchange greetings with Professor Chang Hwan Lee (Department of Business Administration), his guiding professor while he studied at the University.
