Ajou’s Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) organized its International Symposium online this year. The annual International Symposiums have provided opportunity for the GSIS to promote in-depth exchange and debate between international and postgraduate students on campus.

The theme for this year’s symposium, held online on December 4, was “Managing Resources and Promoting Stakeholder Development: A Synthesis of Inter-Regional Perspectives,” for which five select students gave their presentations.

After a welcoming message from Kim Byoung-kwan, Dean of the GSIS, the symposium continued in two sessions. Prof. Jeong Hyoung -wook (Acting Vice-Dean of NGOs and IDC) hosted the overall symposium, while Professors Kang Shin-goo (Dept. of Political Science and Diplomacy) and Troy Felver (School of Business) led one session each.

The first session opened with “Mindfulness to Manage Conflict between Employees and Enhance Job Performance,” a presentation by Adhikari Binaya (from Nepal), which was followed by a presentation on “The Role of NGOs in the World’s Fastest Growing Humanitarian Crisis in Cox’s Bazar: A Comparative Study of BRAC and DRC” by Rashid MD Mamunur (from Bangladesh).

The second session proceeded with three presentations: “Carbon Capturing from Sahiwal Coal Power Plant (SCPP) for Storage in the Gas Fields of Pakistan” by Shareef Umar (from Pakistan); “Economic and Environmental Evaluation of the LPG Vehicle Promotion Program in the City of Baghdad, Iraq” by Rudha Khudhair Mohammed (from Iraq); and “Sustainable Energy Recovery from Solid Waste in Zimbabwe” by Dzawo Victoria (from Zimbabwe).

Dean Kim commented: “The GSIS’s International Symposiums give us great opportunities to exchange information and opinions on various issues faced by societies worldwide today. These symposiums are part of Ajou’s efforts to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
