As the global community faces mounting threats to sustainable development due to natural disasters caused by climate change and environmental degradation, as well as social conflicts stemming from inequality and injustice, ESG—standing for Environment, Social, and Governance—has emerged as a critical and timely global agenda. It represents a collective effort to safeguard our planet and promote the sustainable development of society.

In response to this growing imperative, Ajou University, a leading global institution representing Gyeonggi Province, established the Department of Integrated ESG within its Graduate School of Engineering in 2023, in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Through the launch of a master’s degree program, the university is committed to nurturing highly qualified professionals in the ESG field.

Ajou University’s Department of Integrated ESG is uniquely distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach. Grounded in engineering-based practical knowledge, the program integrates perspectives from business administration and law, offering a comprehensive and multifaceted curriculum.

By addressing ESG issues across sectors —from investment and the economy to industry, the public sector, and civil society—the department is positioned to become a core academic hub for fostering sustainable development on a national and global scale.

The Ajou University College of Engineering's Integrated ESG Department offers courses on sustainable environment, society, and management, including carbon emissions reporting, ESG technology upgrading strategies, ESG management, and ESG and social responsibility.
